Meet David Wilkenfeld, Founder and CEO of PromGirl, a NY based company.
In 1997, when the Internet was just making its debut, David understood the significance and urgency of letting go of the old ideas and moving toward new ones, however obscure they may have seem at the time. David Wilkenfeld, CEO and Founder of PromGirl started an online shop when most were still grappling with the idea of connecting via a screen.
In 1998, he approached his father about selling dresses via the internet since he had been in the garment industry for decades. Just over a year into it, his father and other partner decided to drop out because they didn’t think anyone would ever buy online. I’m sure they wish they had bitten their tongue and stuck it out! By 2012, PromGirl was the largest online seller of special occasion dresses with sales of about $80 million!
In this interview, David shares his journey but also gives valuable advice to young entrepreneurs.
