Wellness shots to help fight common colds this winter

It’s hard to believe we are officially in the fall season and the holidays are upon us! I love the feeling this time of year brings as the weather changes and we go into cozier times.

This is also the time of the year where we start to feel a little run down or start to catch colds. Since I want you to feel your best I am sharing one of my daily regimens with you.

Wellness shots have so much goodness in them for you. They consist of these super food ingredients; lemon, ginger, turmeric, sea salt, pepper, cayenne pepper.   Some mornings, I wake up with inflammation in my body and these shots help reduce my inflammation and pain. And if I feel a cold coming on, I take a double shot right away and the cold is gone! I take them daily and I can’t remember the last time I was sick.

The best trade out for your afternoon coffee are these shots. Really, I promise! Next time you are hitting a slump, skip your caffeine and take a wellness shot. The energy kicks-in pretty quickly.

Lets talk about these powerhouse ingredients and what they do for your body:

Lemon: Even though this is an acidic fruit, once inside your body it cleanses and brings a lot of alkaline to your system. It’s one of the most alkalizing foods out there. Bad things like Cancer cannot survive in an alkalized body. Vitamin C fights of colds and flus, detoxifies your liver, gets your bowls going, makes your skin glow. I can go on and on about the benefits of lemons. I will do an entire blog post on it later!

Ginger: Reduces pain and inflammation, fights colds and flus, relieves migraine and menstrual cramps, fights cancer, treats heart burn/ acid reflux, helps with cough and sore throat – overall boosts the immune system.

Turmeric: is a natural painkiller. Since it’s anti-inflammatory, it reduces inflammation and all types of arthritis. Treats depression, detoxifies the liver, fights cancer, slows down the progression of multiple sclerosis and Alzheimer’s disease. And many more benefits!!

Sea salt: is alkalizing to the body since it has not been exposed to high heat and stripped of its minerals. It helps make your immune system strong to fight off colds and flus, and auto-immune diseases. And many more benefits!

Cayenne Pepper- helps with stuffy noses, helps reduce headaches and sore throat pain, aids with weight loss, helps with hair growth, fights cancer, helps clear pimples and makes your skin look glowing.

Pepper- is an anti-inflammatory and anti-bacterial agent. It helps fight coughs, colds, constipation, anemia, indigestion. It’s a rich source of iron, potassium, vitamin C, vitamin K.

Pretty impressive, right? Now you understand why this is my daily regimen and why I don’t leave home without having had them.

Plus they are easy to travel with. I fill small glass bottles and stick them in a bag of ice and fly with them.

I will show you a few different ways of making these wellness shots. In case you don’t have a juicer don’t worry you can still get on board!!

RECIPE

Take a shot daily against inflammation or if you just need a boost of energy. These shots will clear out your system and reboot it. Better than having a glass of coffee late in the day.

2 cups of ginger root

1 cup of turmeric root or 1 tablespoon of powder turmeric

5-6 lemons

1 teaspoon of cayenne pepper

1 teaspoon of black pepper

A few pinches of sea salt

Juice the ginger and turmeric through a juicer. I like to hand juice the lemons. Add all ingredients to a jar (I use a mason jar or left over jars from food). Shake it up and pour about ¼ cup per shot – if feeling under the weather, take up to 2-3 shots a day.

This is enough for 4 days if using ¾ cup for a shot. Keep in a glass jar or a container that is tightly closed.

TIPS:

* Remove the Turmeric and it will be a ginger shot.

* If you don’t have a juicer eliminate the ginger root and use Turmeric root powder. It will be a turmeric lemon shot.
