Wine tip – how to choose the right glass?

I enjoy wine alot but I know absolutely nothing about them! I honestly couldn’t decipher between a very expensive bottle and an average priced one. I go by the taste and the feeling it gives me. And from what I have been told, I’m not that off base. A good wine shouldn’t necessarily break the bank and CHF30 should get you a very decent quality.

Since I’m surrounded by friends who are extremely wine savvy, I would like to educate myself and learn at least some of the basics. And rather than doing it alone, I’d like to share my discoveries with you!

Let’s start with our first wine tip – how to choose the right glass?

Believe it or not, the wine will taste differently in each glass. “Some glass shapes will mute the flavor, some will emphasize scents, some won’t showcase the wine’s scents at all. But don’t panic – all you need is a few good glasses to match your wine drinking habits.” (Juice.clubw)

Basic tips:

  • White wine: select smaller glasses to keep them from warming up before being consumed.
  • Red wine: select larger glasses so the wine has room to breathe and develop its flavors.

I found this great chart on Juice.clubw which clearly breaks it down. It should help identify the different styles based on our needs.

La Razzia Bar, as per my previous post, La Razzia is a place to hang out, mingle but also try great wines. The bartenders are knowledgeable and friendly so don’t hesitate to ask questions (of course not while scores of people wait to be served at the bar!) But do not expect cheap deals!!

Cafe Boy, restaurant tucked away in Kreis 4, has proven to be a great surprise. I will dedicate a separate post with details soon. But for the purpose of this theme, Cafe Boy not only has a wide selection of wine but is fully knowledgeable on wine pairing.
